In a grand event held on November 13, 2024 at the luxurious Hotel Verde Zanzibar – Azam Luxury Resort & Spa, Mwanana Communications unveiled the third edition of ZiBi Magazine, a publication that has become a beacon for Zanzibar’s economic ambitions. Against the elegant backdrop of crystal chandeliers and ocean views, the launch showcased discussions on trade, investment, and branding that left the audience inspired.

The event’s highlight was an engaging panel discussion on bridging markets for bilateral trade and investment growth. The conversation, moderated by Masoud Salim Mohamed, a prominent corporate lawyer, brought together heavyweights in the field.

Hon. Sharif A. Sharif, Minister of State for Labor, Economy, and Investment, shared his insights. “Zanzibar is at a transformative juncture,” he stated. “We are fully committed to creating a robust investment climate that bridges markets and fosters long-term economic growth.”

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al Rumhy, former Minister of Energy and Minerals for the Sultanate of Oman, who recently appointed as the representative for Zanzibar investment sector particularly on oil and gas sector, spoke passionately about potential of oil and gas in  a country’s economy. “The untapped opportunities in oil and gas here are extraordinary. With the right partnerships, Zanzibar can become a key player in the regional energy market,” he remarked.

Adding to the discussion, Mazin AlRaisi, Executive Director of Project Development at the National Energy Centre, underscored the critical need for strengthened trade ties. “Foreign direct investment flourishes when trust and opportunity align. Zanzibar is building that trust with its openness and strategic location,” he said, earning nods from the audience.

A second panel discussion “Building Capacity and Brands for Local and International Markets” moderated by Hamad Hamad, Executive Director of Zanzibar National Chamber of Commerce brought a fresh perspective on Zanzibar’s entrepreneurial potential.

Ms. Hafsa Mbamba, Tourism Delivery Manager at the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau (ZPDB), captivated the audience with her vision for Zanzibar’s tourism sector. “Zanzibar’s allure lies in its authenticity,” she said. “We are not just building a brand but telling a story of heritage, resilience, and unmatched beauty that the world needs to experience.”

Executive Director of Zanzibar Economic Empowerment Agency (ZEEA), Juma Burhan Mohamed, shared insights on empowering local entrepreneurs. “Our businesses need more than capital; they need knowledge, networks, and platforms to scale their impact,” he noted.

Adding to the discourse, Ms. Sharifa Aidid, Chairwoman and Founder of NTZ Solutions, brought a nuanced perspective to the discussion. Aidid emphasized that the success of local enterprises hinges on aligning their growth strategies with global standards while staying rooted in Zanzibar’s unique identity. “Building capacity is about empowering our people with the skills and knowledge needed to compete on a global scale,” she remarked. She highlighted how NTZ Solutions works closely with businesses to design practical strategies that bridge the gap between ambition and execution, ensuring they thrive both locally and internationally.

Aidid also underscored the role of sustainability as a core component of brand-building and market positioning. She explained how integrating sustainable practices into business operations enhances long-term resilience and attracts investors aligned with net-zero goals. “Sustainability is not just a global trend; it’s a competitive edge,” she said. Her insights resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the importance of a holistic approach to development that balances economic growth with environmental stewardship.

The third edition of ZiBi Magazine, the centerpiece of the evening, was lauded for its in-depth analysis and focus on Blue Economy, Tourism, Finance Technology & Innovation, Infrastructure and Climate Change.

Attendees flipped through the glossy pages, which featured articles on opportunities, infrastructure projects, and the blue economy. “This magazine is not just a publication; it’s a roadmap for investors and policymakers alike as our slogan goes ‘connecting ideas, building futures,” said ZiBi Managing Editor, Hissham Abdukadir.

As the event transitioned into a networking session, the lively atmosphere reflected the optimism of the discussions. Animated conversations about tourism, energy, and trade filled the room. The clinking of glasses punctuated the energy of potential partnerships taking shape while Rahat El Zaman Taarab Orchestra entertain the audience with live performance.

The panoramic views of Zanzibar’s coastline served as a reminder of the island’s vast potential. “This is the Zanzibar we are building,” Hon. Sharif A. Sharif said, gesturing toward the horizon. “One that is open, dynamic, and ready for the future.”
